What Happens During a New Patient Exam?

When you first visit Horizon Family Dentistry, our Lindsay dentists prioritize thoroughly assessing your concerns and oral health before suggesting any treatment. For adult patients, we may need to check your mouth’s condition every 3-5 years.

Our front desk staff will greet you when you arrive in our waiting room. Relax and get comfortable, we want you to feel at ease before your appointment starts. Soon after, a team member will ask about your dental, health, and family history. Then, you’ll see your Havelock dentist for your first exam.

During the Exam, Your Lindsay Dentist Will Check for:

  • Indicators of periodontal (gum) disease
  • Any cracks or damage to your teeth
  • Symptoms that may suggest oral cancer
  • Signs of tooth decay
  • Discoloration or staining of your teeth

Your examination will include:

  • Oral cancer screening
  • A thorough evaluation of all soft tissues in your mouth
  • A detailed inspection of your teeth
  • An assessment of your gums and the supporting bone structure
  • A comprehensive orthopedic review of your jaw joint (TMJ) and masticatory muscles
  • An occlusal (bite) analysis
  • Essential x-rays to identify decay and gather baseline information on bone and jaw joint health
  • Photographs for a detailed visual record
  • A discussion of your objectives for dental treatment
  • Review of any cosmetic concerns you wish to address
  • This comprehensive exam helps us understand your oral health status and create a tailored treatment plan. We focus on addressing your needs and ensuring your comfort throughout the process. By thoroughly examining all aspects of your oral health, we can provide the best possible care and work towards achieving your dental goals.
